Madrid  Van Houdt (Zealand)
Van Houdt, Madrid (nee Zealand) passed away peacefully at Lindsay, Ontario on November 20, 2017 at the age of 79. Madrid was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan on September 2, 1939, the youngest daughter of Clement and Lulu Zealand (Bell). The family relocated to Dunsford, Ontario in the early 1950s. Madrid is predeceased by her siblings, Audrey, Gerald, Eileen and Shirley. Madrid taught in Oshawa and at Curve Lake. Wife of the late John Van Houdt, she leaves behind son Gerald, (wife Lynne), and grandchildren Owen, Colin and Seth. Madrid is fondly remembered by family from all across Canada, including nephews Gordon, Don, and Neil Zealand, brother-in-law Jim Outram, nieces Cathy Wilcox, Laurie Falkner , and Wendy Outram, and cousin Beverly Naylor, as well as teaching colleagues June and Ernie Clinker. Madrid was a member of the Eastern Star, Kawartha Chapter, and a generous supporter of the Salvation Army. The family wishes to thank the staff of Community Care, Fenelon Falls, C.C. A. C., Saint Elizabeth’s, Castle Keep, and Caressant Care (Mary St.), Lindsay. Arrangements entrusted to Jardine’s Funeral Home in Fenelon Falls. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m at Salem Emily Cemetery, located on Kings Warf Road I Dunsford. Those wishing to make an in memoriam donation may do so to the Salvation Army Citadel, Fenelon Falls.
