Monica was born and raised in Timmins. She looks back fondly on her memories of farm life, playing with her brothers and being an active figure skater. In high school, she put her skating skills to use and became involved with the Ontario Special Olympics. She taught their skating programs for three years and had over 75 adults participating. Monica left her hometown at the age of eighteen to pursue her Funeral Director's license in 1990 at Humber College in Toronto. She completed her schooling and then her internship at the Scott Funeral Home in Woodbridge in 1992.
In the spring of 1993, Paul Illman of Illman-Platten Funeral Home, Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon hired Monica. Monica worked for Paul with great pleasure and thrived under his direction. She has gone on to be a very active community leader. In the fall of 1996 she began the Sweater Weather Recycling Program in which used sweaters are collected for distribution to those in need for the winter months.  She was a member of the Bobcaygeon Lioness Club and was President for the term 2006-2008, she has also served as Treasurer and Chair of the Millennium Committee which installed playground equipment at Centennial Park in Verulam Township. Monica was also very active in the local funeral association and was President of the Bay of Quinte Funeral Service Association in 2000-2001. Monica is a past member of Fenelon Falls United Church, where she served on the Board and was actively involved with the "Kids for Christ" program and Sunday School.  Monica is passionate about her community and served as a director on the Fenelon Falls Chamber of Commerce from 2014 to 2017. Monica had the opportunity to implement many changes to the Kawartha Lakes Country Living Show in the spring of 2017 where free admission was introduced for the first time in 32 years.

Monica married Rob Jardine of Lindsay in 1998 and later that same year they became co-workers and they began the long process of purchasing the two locations from Paul and Evelyn Illman, and succeeded in the summer of 2000. Monica and Rob had their first child, Abigal in 2001, followed by Simon in 2004 and Noah in 2005.  She is looking foward to the new adventure ahead, as she and her husband raise their children, continues to work beside her husband and participates with community groups that make a different in people's lives.
